Two profiles for one business or location

Can a business have more than one Google Business Profile?

No: Google says a business can have only one Business Profile, with limited exceptions for individual practitioners, departments and service businesses that have separate locations.

The rule: what Google says

Google's guidelines for representing your business say there should be only one profile per business. They say more than one can cause problems with how your information displays on Google Maps and Search. The Address guidelines say not to create more than one page for each location of your business, whether in a single account or in multiple accounts. Google's duplicate-profiles page says a business can have only one Business Profile. Google may suspend or disable Business Profiles that don't follow its guidelines.

How to tell if it applies to your profile

If Google considers a profile a duplicate, it won't show on Google Search or Maps. Google gives these reasons for a duplicate: a verified profile already exists for the same business, multiple profiles have the same address, or multiple profiles exist for the same business offering different services. An individual practitioner shouldn't have multiple Business Profiles to cover all of their specializations. Google makes an exception for individual practitioners and departments within businesses, universities, hospitals and government buildings, which may have separate pages. A service business with different locations, each with separate service areas and separate staff, may have one profile for each location.

What to fix before you appeal

Before you submit an appeal, make sure your profile follows all the guidelines, because appeals can only be submitted once. Don't create a new Business Profile for the same business. If someone else owns a verified profile for your business, you can request access from the current owner. If you created a duplicate by mistake, you can remove it without affecting your verified listing, but removing it deletes all its content and linked managers, so remove the correct profile. If 2 or more profiles for the same business exist on Maps, request a merge by reporting a suggestion on Google Maps. If your business relocates, update the existing profile with the new address instead of creating a new one. If you offer different services, list them on your profile instead of making separate profiles. If 2 distinct and eligible businesses were incorrectly merged, contact support to appeal the duplicate status.
